SunCatcher™ |
Break–Through Award Winner
Popular Mechanics announced the SES SunCatcher™ technology astheir 2008 Breakthrough Award Winner, and it was featured on the front cover of the November 2008 edition. This award recognizes the SES SunCatcher™ as one of top 10 world-changing innovations for 2008.
SunCatcher™ |
Modular & Scalable
The modular design of the SunCatcher™ allows for significant advantages compared to other CSP systems. Each SunCatcher provides 25kW of concentrating solar power as it goes on line, allowing power plants to scale easily, cost-effectively and efficiently— a ‘plug & play’ design, from 25MW to over 1,000MW with high availability. And should a component need replacing, the modular design means that subsystems can be replaced on site, as and when needed, with no wait times for parts or engines and with minimal impact on operations. This modular design also allows for immediate power production as units are installed, and high terrain tolerance, meaning greater flexibility for site selection, and minimal cost and environmental disturbance for land preparation. The SunCatcher™ sets a new standard for modularity and scalability, enabling large scale automotive-like mass production and utility-scale deployment. |

SunCatcher™ |
Highest Solar-To-Electricity
Conversion Recorded
The SunCatcher™ Power System has earned the world’s highest recorded peak efficiency rating, 31.25%, for converting solar thermal heat-to-grid quality electricity. This record was accomplished working in close cooperation and partnership with Sandia National Laboratories and the United States Department (DOE).
Lowest Water Use |
Lowest Cost and Greatest Flexibility
Since the SunCatcher doesn’t need water for the generation process or the cooling cycle, it uses a fraction of the amount of water needed by other CSP technologies, meaning significant cost, siting, permitting, and environmental advantages.
